Who we are and what this policy covers
This website, oliverjonas.com, together with everything on it, is operated by Oliver Jonas, 2053 Brown St, Fort Myers, FL 33916, United States. Throughout this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Oliver Jonas, and "the Services" means this website, our store, and everything connected to them, including customer support and marketing emails.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies whenever you visit the site, place an order, contact us, or otherwise interact with us. Our store runs on Shopify, which supplies the platform that makes the Services possible.
Please read this policy before you use the Services. By using them, you confirm you have read it and understand how your information is handled. If anything here conflicts with our Terms of Service, this policy is the one that applies to personal information.
What we mean by personal information
Personal information is information that identifies you, or that could reasonably be linked back to you. It does not include information collected anonymously, or information that has been stripped of anything that could point back to a person.
The information we collect
Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect the following:
Contact details. Your name, email address, billing address, shipping address, and phone number.
Order and payment details. What you bought, when you bought it, the amount, the payment method used, confirmation of payment, and the status of the order. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, we do not receive or store your card number, expiry date, or security code.
Account details. If you create an account, your username, password in encrypted form, saved addresses, and preferences.
Shopping behaviour. Items you view, add to your cart, add to a wishlist, buy, return, exchange, or cancel, and your order history with us.
Messages. Anything you send us by email, through the contact form, or in a review, including the content of the message and the address it came from.
Device and technical data. Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, language setting, the pages you visit, how long you stay, and where you arrived from. This comes in automatically when you load a page.
Marketing preferences. Whether you have subscribed to email updates, and whether you have opened or clicked one of them.
Where the information comes from
Directly from you, when you place an order, create an account, sign up for emails, or write to us.
Automatically, from your device and browser as you use the site, including through cookies and similar technologies.
From our service providers, such as our payment processor confirming a payment, or a carrier confirming a delivery.
Why we use it, and on what basis
To take and fulfil your order. This is the main reason we hold any of it. Without your name, address, and payment confirmation we cannot ship anything. This is necessary to perform the contract between us.
To keep you informed. Order confirmations, dispatch notices, tracking links, and messages about delays or problems. These are service messages, not marketing, and you receive them because you ordered.
To handle returns, refunds, and exchanges, and to answer any question you send us.
To improve the store. We look at which pages are used, where people drop off, and which products get attention, so we can make the site work better. This is done on aggregate figures wherever possible.
To send marketing, but only if you asked for it. You can stop it at any time with the unsubscribe link, and we act on that immediately.
To prevent fraud and keep the store secure. Checking that an order is genuine, spotting suspicious patterns, and protecting the site and its users.
To meet legal obligations. Tax records, accounting records, and responding to a lawful request from an authority.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it is needed, and only with:
Shopify, which hosts this store and provides the technology behind it. Information you submit through the Services is transmitted to and processed by Shopify so the store can run.
Payment processors, who handle the transaction itself and receive your payment details directly.
Fulfilment partners and carriers, who receive your name, address, and the contents of your order so it can be packed and delivered.
Email and support tools, where we use them to send order updates or answer your messages.
Professional advisers and authorities, where we are legally required to disclose something, or where we need to establish or defend a legal claim.
A buyer or successor, if the business is ever sold, merged, or reorganised, in which case your information may transfer as part of that.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties so they can market their own products to you. We do not trade it, rent it, or hand it over for advertising profiles.
Our relationship with Shopify
The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your use of the store in order to provide and improve the platform. Information you submit may be transmitted to and shared with Shopify, and with third parties that may sit in countries other than the one you live in. To read how Shopify handles personal information and what rights you may have in relation to it, see the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy/consumers.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files placed on your device when you load a page. We use them to:
- Keep your cart working as you move between pages
- Remember your preferences, such as a chosen size or region
- Keep you signed in if you have an account
- Understand, on aggregate, how the store is used so we can improve it
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can usually set your browser to warn you before one is placed. Note that the cart and checkout rely on cookies, so blocking them entirely will break parts of the store.
Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. There is no common industry standard for how to respond to it, so we do not currently act on it. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal and the law in your state recognises it, we treat that as an opt-out request for that browser and device.
Third-party websites
The Services may link to other websites we do not control. Following one of those links takes you somewhere with its own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them. Have a look at their policy before you share anything. A link is not an endorsement.
Information about children
The Services are meant for adults and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us their details, write to us at the address below and we will delete them.
How long we keep it
Order, invoice, and payment records: 7 years, because tax and accounting law requires it.
Customer support correspondence: 2 years after the matter is closed.
Account details: for as long as your account is open, and for a short period after you close it.
Marketing data: until you unsubscribe, plus a record of the unsubscribe itself so we do not contact you again by mistake.
Technical and cookie data: up to 12 months.
Where we no longer need something, we delete it or reduce it to figures that cannot be traced back to a person.
How we keep it safe
The whole site runs over an encrypted connection. Payments are handled by providers who meet PCI DSS standards, so card details go straight to them and are never stored on our side. Inside the business, access to customer data is limited to the people who need it to do their job.
No system is completely secure, and information sent over the internet can never be guaranteed to be safe in transit. We would rather say that plainly than promise perfection. Please do not send sensitive information, such as full card numbers, to us by email.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, some or all of the following apply. These rights are not absolute, and there are cases where the law lets us decline a request, in which case we will explain why.
Right to know and access. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, where we got it, why we use it, and who we have shared it with.
Right to a copy. You can ask for a copy of your personal information in a portable format, and ask us to send it to someone else where that is technically possible.
Right to correction. If something we hold is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
Right to deletion. You can ask us to delete your personal information. We will do so unless we are legally required to keep it, such as invoices for the tax period.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. If that ever changes, we will update this page first and give you a clear way to opt out.
Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by state privacy laws.
Right to withdraw consent. Where we rely on your consent, for example for marketing emails, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing it does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Right against discrimination. We will not give you a worse price, worse service, or worse products because you exercised any of these rights.
To use any of these rights, email support@oliverjonas.com. We will confirm receipt and respond within 30 days, or tell you if we need longer and why. We may need to verify who you are before we act, which usually means matching the details you give us against an order. You can also use an authorised agent, in which case we will ask for proof that you gave them permission.
State privacy laws in the United States
Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights set out above under their own state legislation, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA. The categories of personal information described in this policy are the categories we collect, and the purposes described are the purposes we use them for. We have not sold or shared personal information in the past 12 months, and we have not disclosed it for any commercial purpose other than the service providers listed above.
If you are a California resident, you can also ask us once a year for a list of third parties to whom we disclosed personal information for their own direct marketing in the previous year. Our answer will be that there were none.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, write to us first at support@oliverjonas.com so we have the chance to put it right. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to your state attorney general or the relevant regulator where you live.
International transfers
Some of our service providers, our fulfilment partners in particular, operate outside the United States. Where personal information is transferred to them, it is limited to what is needed to deliver your order, and it is covered by contractual safeguards with those partners.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the business changes, as we add or remove tools, or where the law requires it. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
